Regine Schumann is a German artist who is classified as a ‘light artist’, producing these beautiful fluorescent pieces that look great in the daylight, and completely striking at night. Residing in Cologne, Regine’s art focuses on light effects made possible by the use of fluorescent materials. By mixing coloured polylight-cords and coloured acrylic panels she is able to compose these complex light spaces in accordance to Goethe’s theory of colours.
These vivid colours glow once the piece receives either natural or artificial light. Depending on the location and positioning the light can merge together, blending and layering to create this interesting sense of energy.
Schumann’s approach to creating experiences like this using simple shapes and colours and exploring them throughout her career is refreshing to see. You can tell she has really perfected her light forms and they are to be treasured, admired, and most of all experienced in person. This is how art can change and shape the way we live our own lives.
